When planning a romantic getaway to the Oregon coast, most couples look for oceanfront accommodation, or at least an ocean view. Although this attitude is perfectly understandable, it deprives amorous-minded travelers of the wonderful Sandlake Country Inn, which is definitely a very good place to kiss.

The inn's countrified, farm-like surroundings give no hint of the kind of elegance and luxury that await you in the four very private suites. Innkeepers tend to all the affectionate details to ensure that your stay is comfortable. The smell of freshly baked cookies and sweet apple cider permeates the house, enticing guests to stop for refreshments in the homey downstairs parlor before checking into their rooms. Creaking hardwood floors give historic flavor to the unusually elegant rooms, while dramatic floral fabrics and wallpapers add personality. The spacious Starlight Suite is situated behind a curtain at the top of the stairs in the original farmhouse. (The connecting rooms in this spacious suite have doors that can be closed for privacy). Innkeeper's Note: The curtain has been replaced with a door for full privacy!

Downstairs in the Timbers Room, sumptuous linens drape a four-poster king-sized bed. French doors open onto a private deck and gardens, Oriental rugs cover hardwood floors, and a large bathroom boasts a sunken Jacuzzi tub set behind lace draperies. The Rose Garden Room is smaller but equally charming. For total privacy we recommend the neighboring self-contained Cottage, with its atrium doors that open onto a deck beside a burbling creek. In the inviting bedroom, a gleaming black Jacuzzi tub offers views of the garden. A full kitchen, cozy breakfast nook, and TV/VCR are additional luxuries.

Because the owners value your privacy almost as much as you do, an overwhelmingly generous three-course breakfast is delivered for you to enjoy undisturbed in your room. Imagine waking to fresh-squeezed orange juice, grapefruit with raspberry sauce, lemon bread, and green chili soufflé with fresh salsa. The menu changes daily, making every morning a special event.

Romantic Suggestion: Your hospitable hostess can also provide a "Togetherness Basket" of local goodies such as smoked salmon and cheese, sourdough baguettes, hot cheddar-broccoli soup, potato salad, fresh fruit, sparkling cider, and chocolate truffles to bring along on a tour of the surrounding splendor.
